Fur Rondy/Late February-March

Representing the pioneering spirit of Alaska, this multi-day celebration in Anchorage has 20 official cultural and sporting events and over 50 activities located around town.

Started in 1936, Fur Rondy coincided with the miners and trappers coming to town with their yield. Today, people from all over come to Anchorage for 12 days of fun and to watch the running of the reindeer, dog sled competitions.

World Ice Art Championships/ February-March

Ice carvers from all over the world descend upon Fairbanks along with their chainsaws and hand crafted tools, and turn 1000 pound blocks of ice into incredible, fantastical creations. The competition takes place over a month and by the end of the carving the local fairgrounds is transformed into a winter wonderland where gravity defying frozen sculptures are enhanced with colorful LED lights that sparkle and shimmer against the Alaskan night sky.
